Tender Mercies Review

About The Book:
When Rosie, Carrie, and Grandma are asked to help out at Last Chance Corral, a nursemare foal rescue, Rosie is shocked when she experiences firsthand how cruel some people can be to animals. During the week at Last Chance, the girls learn that the God who knows when a sparrow falls to the ground works through the kindness of others to provide for the animals He created. For the foals, and the girls, Last Chance Corral is a life-changing experience.
Tender Mercies is the fourth book in the Sonrise Stable series, heartwarming stories of an extended homeschooling family as they live, learn, and love together. Mixing adventure, life lessons, and realistic horse experiences, the series is a must for readers who enjoy family values, Christian faith, and, of course, horses!
My Review:

Tender Mercies starts out with the wonderful view from a colt. He has eyes for only his mother and a nice boy that takes care of him. The boy brought the colt and his mother out daily to get exercise and brought them back in at night to keep them safe. But one night the boy is awakened by the sounds of whining horses. He runs to the stall where the colt  he named Sparky stood all alone, his mother taken from him. What lays ahead for this poor colt?

Rosie and Carrie watched as Grandma paced back and forth talking on the phone. They begged her steadily to tell them whats going on and when she finally does they barely can contain their excitement. They head out the next day to the Last Chance Corral. A place where horses and foals a like are taken good care of and raised properly. And now Rosie, Carrie, and Grandma will be helping there. The lady that owns the place is getting six new foals, ones of which Rosie and Carrie wants to take home. But they cant, they are here to help her with the new foals she is receiving. But this job isn't all it cracked up to be. Will they make it through this long week or just give up?

About The Author(Vicki Watson's own words):
My love of horses began when a teenage neighbor offered me my first ride, on the back of her horse. From my 8-year-old perspective, it seemed like the biggest horse in the world. From that moment on, I was addicted. Horses were to become a very important part of my life, although I never could have imagined, at the time, how much God would teach me about Himself and my relationship to Him through these wonderful animals. The Sonrise Stable series combines my love of God and horses in stories that I hope will help children learn more about both. I have a vision for ten initial books in the series, taking the main characters through one year. Beyond that I'll see where God leads me. I have been blessed with three daughters and homeschooled each of them through high school. I enjoy trail riding my Rocky Mountain mare, Nikki, hiking, photography, and playing guitar. I work from home as a  and computer programmer and enjoy the variety and flexibility that allows.

Still Lolo Review

About The Book:

14331167 In December 2011, Lauren (“LoLo”) Scruggs, a 23-year-old fashion journalist, suffered a sudden injury that made headlines around the world. She had been on a short flight to look at Christmas lights and, upon exiting the small plane, was hit by the still-moving propeller blade. A frantic 911 call, several major surgeries, and thousands of prayers later: Lauren lived. But she lost her left hand and left eye. And she had to face some incredibly difficult questions: What kind of future will I have? Where is God in all this pain? Will anyone ever be able to love me now? In Still LoLo, Lauren speaks out for the first time since her accident. She and her family reveal what really happened that night, what Lauren’s life is like today, what got them through their journey toward healing, and how they conquered all odds to persevere as a family. It’s a compelling and fiercely beautiful story of faith, determination, and staying true to who you are—no matter what.

My Review:

Tattlers Branch Review

 Tattler's Branch: A Novel

About The Book:
Lilly Corbett Still has grown to love her life as the small-town doctor of Skip Rock, a tiny coal community in the Kentucky mountains. Though her husband, Tern, is away for a few months at a mining job, Lilly has her hands full with her patients and her younger sister visiting for the summer. Lilly turns to her good friend and neighbor, Armina, to help keep things in order—until a mysterious chain of events leaves Armina bedridden and an abandoned baby on her doorstep. Lilly works to uncover the truth, unaware of what a mess she’s found herself in until a break-in at her clinic puts her on high alert. As she struggles between what is right and what is safe, Lilly must discover the strength of her resilient country neighbors, her God, and herself.
My Review:
Mountain River in the wood - stock photoArmina had awoken that morning with the thoughts of berry picking. As she walked to the best picking spot in town she couldn't help but take off her shoes and feel the dirt between her feet. Once she was at the blackberry bush, she just went to picking. She was suddenly distracted as a  man and his wife were fighting along the side of the creek. The man looked as if he was bulling the woman as he pushed her in the creek. As the couple went under water, Armina's first thought was running but they came up to soon. The man finished the woman off with a rock and then noticed Armina sanding there.
Armina wakes up lying on the hard ground beside the berry bush. As she sits up she notices a trail of blood, looking as if something was dragged across the ground. She follows the trial to a small house, that has a baby crying inside. She took cover behind a tree, as she notices that man coming from the house with a pick ax and a shovel. She waits until she hears the sound of the shovel scrapping rock before she dashes in the house scoops up the baby and some diapers, and makes a run for her house.

Lilly was busy making lunch when she sent her sister Macy to check on Armina at Armina's house. When Macy starts yelling for her, she took off running. Macy tells Lilly of how she found Armina in the front yard passed out. Once they get her inside and Armina wakes up they try to figure out what happened. Armina not remembering starts acting strange. Lilly ends up finding the baby on Armina's bed and asks Armina what happened and why the baby was there. Will Lilly be able to figure out whats wrong with Armina? Will she find out what happened to the baby's mom and bring her death to justice? Or she end up like that woman at the creek?

Parables of Pigs Review

About The Book:

Do you have the "right" qualifications to serve as a missionary? How do  you know you're hearing "the call," anyway? In this collection of missionary biographies and modern-day parables, you'll learn that your
skills, experience, and past don't really matter - only your obedience to a God who knows exactly how, when, and where He can use you to pour out His love to hungry souls. A young marriage destroyed by military  service. A man given over to drugs and alcohol, taunted by the Enemy and rescued by a forgotten Savior. Restored to life and love, then called to serve. "Portrait of a Walk in Faith." A childhood lost to violence, innocence ripped away. Transformed from cutting her body to sharing God's inestimable love with fatherless children around the world. "Portrait of a Broken Heart."  Two financially disastrous injuries. On the verge of losing their home. Surely God was calling the wrong family at the wrong time to help build an orphanage. "Portrait of a  Builder." "The path to missions isn't what you imagine." "The stories that Jackie has written and collected will make you smile, cause  you to reflect, and hopefully inspire you to find your place in God's story. Through them, Jackie encourages us to play an active role in the divine narrative of bringing glory to God among the nations. Her modern-day parables illustrate how our own lives can be interwoven with the grander story of God's love and pursuit of His creation.""-Omar Garcia, Missions Pastor at Kingsland Baptist Church, Katy, TX

My Review:

Have you ever wondered what it was like to be a missionary? Well Parables of PIGS goes in detail of each missions life. Telling you what they are struggling with and what they want from life. Some include:
  •     A young marriage destroyed by military service. A man given over to drugs and alcohol, taunted by the Enemy and rescued by the forgotten Savior. Restored to life and love, then called to serve. Portrait of a Walk in Faith.
  •     A childhood lost to violence, innocence ripped away. Transformed from cutting her body to sharing God's inestimable love with fatherless children around the world. Portrait of a Broken Heart.
  •     Two financially disastrous injuries. On the verge of losing their home. Surely God was calling the wrong family at the wrong time to help build an orphanage. Portrait of a Builder.

I really enjoyed the Parable of the Wedding Ring. This parable tells of the power of prayer. Of which all Christians should know of. The author is on a plane headed to Miami when her seating companion started to look for something. So asked him what was wrong and if she could help. He told her, he lost his wedding band, and continued frantically searching. The asked the flight attendant to help as she came to tell they needed to be seated. She told them she would announce to later on the loud speaker, but after an hour she soon forgot. As the hour went by the author sat there praying for the man, praying he would find the ring. The author seating companion soon started looking again, this time their seating companion beside the window asks them whats going on. As they tell her, she recalls a woman she bumped into earlier had found a ring on their plane. The man begins begging her to go find the woman and ask her for the ring. As the woman gets up, the author continues praying. The woman arrives with the ring and presents it to the man. The author goes and tells you of how this goes with the bible verse: Mark 9:23-24.

Three Months in Florence Review

 Three Months in Florence

About The Book:
Lena Wallace was supposed to go to Italy on her honeymoon. That was sixteen years ago. Instead, she settles for cooking Spaghetti Bolognese for her two children while her husband, Alex, is on yet another business trip to Florence without her. Lena deals with his absences in the same stoic way she deals with all her responsibilities. And then comes the call that changes everything—the one from Alex’s Italian mistress. Stunned and heartsick, Lena flies to Florence to confront Alex. The city is every bit as beautiful as she imagined, from its glittering fountains and cafes to the golden sunsets over rolling hills. But the further she goes to salvage her marriage, the less Lena recognizes herself—or the husband she’s trying to win back. Instead, she’s catching glimpses of the person she once hoped to be and the life and family she truly wants. Most of all, she’s wondering if the real journey is only just beginning…
My Review:
Beautifiul woman in red cloak riding on gandola - stock photoLena met her husband Alex back in college about 16 years ago. The minute she laid eyes on him she knew he was the one, the one she was going to marry. Their relationship develops more and more, soon they are married. They were so in love, they planned to go to Italy for their honeymoon. But that was then and this is now, Lena is stuck at home once again with their two kids while her husband is in Florence. When she receives a package of a dozen roses and a note that says I'm Sorry, she gets a little upset. He was suppose to come that day, so Lena takes it upon her self to Skype him. Expecting Alex to answer, Lena was quite drawn back to see a beautiful Italian woman, named Alexandria, answer. After a few questions, Lena finds out that Alexandria is no less than Alex's mistress. So Lena packs up and heads out to Florence, to confront Alex.

Have You Seen My Shoe? Review

Children's Book: Have You Seen My Shoe?

About The Book:
Jason woke up in the morning with excitement. Today was his first day in kindergarten. He waited a long time for this day and it finally arrived. He took off his pajamas and started to dress: he put on his shirt, put on his pants, put on the right shoe and... Wait a minute! Where did the other shoe go? He looked for the shoe all over the room: under the bed, behind the curtain, on the bookshelf and even inside the cat's basket ... but he couldn't find it anywhere. As he didn't want to be late to kindergarten, he decided to go look for it outside ... Who knows where this shoe could be...
My Review:
Feet in sneakers in green grass - stock photoJason wakes up on his first day of kindergarten to find, his shoe is missing. Jason looks every where around his house, still the shoe is not able to be found. So Jason heads out to the grocery store, to ask the grocer if he's seen it. But the grocer hasn't seen it and sends him to the vegetable-stand down the street. Jason travels from place to place, not finding his shoe. But he's finds it in the most interesting place ever.
This book teaches us about how important it is to keep up with our possessions. It also included the many things you would find in different places.
I read this book to one of my little brothers and he found it quite enjoyable. He and I both enjoyed the colorful illustrations. Each one helping bring this book into a better prospective.
About The Author: (From The Author)
Image of Sarit GilorMy name is Sarit Gilor. I'm the author of several highly imaginative children's books including Nellie's Magic Glasses and The Merry Adventures of Charlie the Choo-Choo, and I promised there would be many more to come. I believe in inspiring creativity, communication, curiosity and imagination in children through reading. In fact, evidence suggests that children who read for enjoyment every day are more likely to do well at school, develop a broader vocabulary and increase general knowledge than those who don't. I have a lot of fun creating stories that entertain my young readers and hopefully teach them important everyday lessons in a fun and easy to understand manner.

Sonrise Stable: Clothed With Thunder Review

About The Book:

This is Book 3 in a Series of 4.
After sitting through a 4-H demonstration on the evolution of the horse, Rosie and Carrie are determined to present the arguments for creation at the club’s next meeting. The demonstration proves harder to put together than they imagined as everyone offers the girls their opinions. The lessons Rosie learns about creation extend into her life in surprising ways as she faces her old adversary, Billy King, who cheated her out of her first trophy with her pony, Scamper.
My Review:
In Clothed With Thunder, Rosie and her newly adopted sister, Carrie were sitting in their 4-H class. Believing in God, they were horrified to hear of the supposed evolution of horses. Rosie and Carrie try to come up with a way to prove that God created all living things, even horses. But as they go along it proves to be harder then they thought, after hearing the opinions of others. With the help of Grandma, recovering from a broken leg, and their Mom, the girls prepare their own report on the creation of the horse. Will they be able to prove evolution wrong and still get the respect they deserve? Or will everything fall apart?

The author has done a wonderful job making these books. Being the third in the series, they just keep getting better and better. I love how the characters are home-schooled because not many books, christian or otherwise, the children are home-schooled. Being a homeschool student myself, its great to find a series that has children that are home-schooled. I can't wait for the next book.

I Want To Do Yoga Too Review

 About The Book:

I Want To Do Yoga Too Hallie and her mother go to the yoga studio. Hallie wants to join her mom's yoga class, but she isn't allowed. She complains to the baby-sitter, who gently guides her through four yoga poses. Hallie learns that not only is yoga easy, but fun as well.
My Review:

One Day, Hallie's mom decides to take Hallie along with her to the yoga studio. Hallie is suppose to spend time with Robin, a baby-sitter at the studio.
After Hallie arrives in the play area, she gets upset because she wants to do yoga, too. So Robin decides to show Hallie a few poses without Hallie really knowing what she is doing.
When the visit is over Hallie explains to her mom that she wants to do yoga, too. And that's when Robin informs her, she was doing yoga, too. And little Hallie leaves the studio a very happy girl.

I really enjoyed the adorable pictures, each one helped tell what the book was about. And as a child reads this book they can do poses right along with Hallie. Great, for anyone who does yoga.

Catch The Wind Review

About The Book:
Product Details Catch The Wind is the extraordinary adventure of two young boys who venture into the heartland of gator country in the Mississippi swamplands. Their exciting and perilous journey by raft down the mighty Mississippi River leaves you with only one thought: What will they do next?

My Review:

Catch The Wind is full of adventure from the very beginning. River was headed to his favorite fishing hole when he spotted a boy fighting with the fish on the end of his line. So River rushes over to the boy and starts to help pull the fish up and out of the water. The fish just happens to be the biggest catfish ever seen and the boy turns out to be his new neighbor, William. They do almost everything together, even getting in to trouble. River's grandpa comes to visit and starts telling the boys about a giant gator. This, peaking the boys interests starts them planning to build a home-made raft to take down the Mississippi River.

I have three brothers so I feel like I know what adventure is all about. This story reminds me a lot of my brothers and all the wild crazy things they get into. The author has done an outstanding job of making me feel like I was a part of the story.

The Hidden Chamber in the Great Sphinx

About The Book:
My name is Dr. Cliff Post and I am a modern day explorer and archaeologist. I invite you to join me on an extraordinary adventure to ancient Egypt where we will explore the secrets of The Great Sphinx. Our journey will take us far from home and we'll find trouble along the way. Will we escape? Will the supercomputer be recovered? Read The Hidden Chamber in the Great Sphinx to find out!
My Review:

I love to read anything about the history of Egypt, so I was really excited to hear I was receiving this book. This book follows Dr. Cliff Post and Dr. Khalid Saad on their journey to discovering the hidden chamber in the right paw of the Great Sphinx. Having to leave the woman he is madly in love with behind, Dr. Cliff travels to Egypt and to help get the chamber open. But as they are doing so, Dr. Hosnee Sadat decides it is best to keep other people away from it. After Dr. Cliff and Dr. Khalid get it open, they discover far more than they expected.
I love the adventure of this book. I felt like I was with them every step of the way. When they finally got the chamber open, there was a great spin to what they found.

Back To School Givaway!!!

SKECHERS
So this year is my oldest sons first year in school and like most parents I'm having the jitters and pre-anxiety attacks. My baby is growing up and I want it to slow down instead of speeding up! There is some fun to getting them ready at-least it is fun to me. Shopping for school supplies has always been a favorite thing for me and the best part of School shopping was getting new shoes! The shoes always completed the process and to me was a major part of it all.

     Corporate Overview

A billion-dollar global leader in the lifestyle footwear industry and a high-performance footwear brand, SKECHERS USA, Inc. designs, develops and markets more than 3,000 styles for men, women and children. SKECHERS' success stems from its employees, high-quality, varied product offering, diversified domestic and international distribution channels, and targeted multi-channel marketing.
My boys are just like any other boys their age, Heroes and anything that flashes and makes REALLY loud noises intrigues them. Boys' Hot Lights: Ibex - Humvee Light-Up Shoes. These are the shoes that my oldest son will be wearing to his first school year. My favorite thing about them is the Velcro strap. He hasn't really grasped the concept of tying his shoes just yet and this will also help with preventing the many trips that shoestrings can cause. By the way let's not forget that these bad boys light up! They are definitely made for boys did you see those grips?  Boys' Hot Lights: Damager - Police II Whoa there officer, I wasn't speeding! My little guy really loves these he is constantly walking through the house stomping his feet just so the lights will go off. There are quite a few neat things to these as well! For example the on and off switch (How amazing is that?!) yup! it's located on the strap. The grips are also great on these as well plus the lights are totally awesome! I mean if I could get these in my size i'd probably wear them. Who doesn't want there shoes to look like a patrol car?! There are tons and tons of other great shoes to choose from at Skechers.com but for now i'll stick with just these two. They are all really great and definitely worth the money!   Hey guess what! Skechers is such an amazing company they have offered one our readers a chance to win a child sized pair of shoes!! Just in time for Back To School!

 A Word From Me:
Wow!!! This sounds great!!! I seen this and wised I  had a pair. I know if my brothers were to see this they would want these shoes, too.
Get back to school with Skechers

If You Were Me and Lived In Mexico Review

 About The Book:
If You Were Me and Lived In... Mexico: A Child's Introduction to Cultures Around the World "If You Were Me and Lived in ...Mexico-A Child's Introduction to Cultures Around the World" is the first entry in an exciting new children's series that focuses on learning and appreciating the many cultures that make up our small planet. Perfect for children from Pre-K to age 8, this book is a groundbreaking new experience in elementary education. Interesting facts and colorful illustrations help children realize that although the world is large, people all over the globe are basically the same.
My Review:

If You Were Me And Lived In Mexico is an easy way for anyone to learn more about Mexico and its culture. Created to show kids, about life in Mexico, and this book does just that. From learning about the Palacio de Bella Artes to learning about the Chichen Itza, this book has it all. Did you know that people in Mexico celebrate a holiday called Descubrimiento de América, a day honoring the discovery of America? This book includes illustrations in bright colors of the things to enjoy in Mexico. I think this is a good book for all ages. This is the first book in the series A Child's Introduction to Cultures Around the World.

I loved how the authors words just flowed off the page. She did a wonderful job telling the wonderful things to do in Mexico. I can't wait to read her next book in this series.
